YEREVAN. – National Assembly (NA) of Armenia Vice Chairman Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also co-chairman of the interparliamentary commission on cooperation between the NAs of Armenia and Belarus, on Monday received Belarusian NA House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Boleslav Pirshtuk, who also is co-chairman of the aforesaid commission.

The interlocutors discussed parliamentary relations, cooperation within international platforms, and the political and economic ties between Armenia and Belarus, the NA of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Sharmazanov underscored the part of the said parliamentary cooperation commission in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries. 

Also, the Armenian NA deputy speaker reflected on the importance of close cooperation between the Armenian and the Belarusian MPs within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, and the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

In addition, Sharmazanov stressed that next year will mark the 70th anniversary of the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and noted that, in this context, several initiatives condemning genocide will be submitted.

“It’s not possible to prevent new genocides without recognizing the past and condemning Armenian Genocide,” he added. “Not condemning Armenian Genocide gave birth to Hitler’s Fascism.”
