Shudder had pull for “Push,” as the all-horror-all-the-time streamer has acquired the home invasion thriller ahead of its U.S. premiere at Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, Calif. later this month. The film, directed by David Charbonier and Justin Powell, will make its exclusive debut directly on AMC Networks’ genre-focused service later this year.

“Push” stars Alicia Sanz, seen in Prime Video’s “El Cid,” and Raúl Castillo, seen in “Smile 2” and “Army of the Dead,” as a realtor and a killer, respectively. Their stand-off during an open house triggers the pregnant real estate agent into premature labor, adding another alarming layer of dread to the survival premise.

The kidnap thriller “The Boy Behind the Door” marked the writing and directing duo’s second feature, though its 2021 premiere ended up closely aligning with the release of their 2018-shot debut “The Djinn,” about a mute boy haunted by a monster. “The Djinn” was released by IFC Midnight, while “Boy Behind the Door” debuted directly on Shudder. Both films are currently available on the streaming service.

“Push” made its world premiere at the Sitges Film Festival last October. The film is produced by Ryan Scaringe. Amy Lippens, Jilbert Daniel, Del Charbonier, Sanz and Castillo are executive producers. UTA Independent Film Group negotiated the acquisition on behalf of the filmmakers.
