Arkansas Razorbacks and NBA legend Sidney Moncrief made an appearance at a Little Rock elementary school to inspire youth on Thursday.

Moncrief was born in Little Rock and went on to play basketball for the University of Arkansas from 1975-1979.

He was selected 5th overall in the 1979 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks and played with them until 1989. He finished his career with the Atlanta Hawks, playing for the team from 1990-1991.

On Thursday, Moncrief appeared at Williams Magnet Elementary School, where he spoke to young students on the importance of what he calls the "Five Literary Superpowers": speaking, talking, listening, writing and researching.

The launch comes as part of Moncrief's larger strategy of empowering youth through literacy.
