After a lopsided win out west, No. 11 Syracuse women’s lacrosse (9-5, 5-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) is back on the East Coast for another ACC matchup against Virginia Tech (8-7, 2-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) on Saturday in Blacksburg. With just two games left in the regular season, the Orange are hoping to keep building momentum heading into the postseason.

Last weekend’s 18-6 win over Cal may not have come as a surprise given the Golden Bears' conference struggles, but it did offer a reminder of just how many weapons Syracuse has on offense. Emma Ward continued her impressive season, dishing out five assists and scoring twice.

“She’s got an unbelievable lacrosse IQ, she’s got great vision, and she’s really like a quarterback out on the field,” head coach Kayla Treanor said of the attacker.

It wasn’t just the grad student. Freshman Caroline Trinkaus tied her career high with four goals, Sophomore Alexa Vogelman notched a hat trick, and Gracie Britton added one as well. That kind of balanced scoring effort has been a theme for SU all year long. In total, nine players have reached double-digit goals this season.

“It’s all a credit to my great teammates — playing around them, with them, the energy they bring. I love every second of it,” Trinkaus said of her success.

SU has an opportunity to build some momentum against a Virginia Tech team still trying to find its footing in the ACC. The Hokies have struggled on both sides of the ball, especially in conference play. VT has been outscored 126-57 in its seven ACC games. The team has also allowed more goals than any other in the conference and sits in 10th out of 12 teams in goals per game.

Virginia Tech is in search of its first win over the ’Cuse since 2018. SU leads the all-time series 17-1.

This is Syracuse’s final true road game of the regular season, with only a neutral-site clash with Boston College left next week at Christian Brothers Academy.

Opening draw from Thompson Field is set for noon on Saturday. Follow @WAERSports on X for live updates.
